We run the indoor air quality studies for your projects and we advise you from the brief through to handover. Your decisions are then made on calculated concentrations.
At least three work packages influence the air quality of your building. They are designed by different teams, at different moments of the project, and each one is compliant on its own. Only an i4o indoor air prediction lets you estimate the result.
Adhesives, paints, resilient flooring, panels, fixed furniture. Every product meets its emission label taken in isolation — but emissions add up inside a given volume, and some of them react with each other.
Air flow rates are sized against regulatory requirements and occupancy scenarios, without knowing the actual emissions of the rooms they are meant to sweep, nor the quality of the outdoor air they bring in.
The further thermal performance is pushed, the less the building forgives a shortfall in air renewal. What is emitted indoors stays indoors, and what comes in depends entirely on the mechanical ventilation.
We start from your model (gbXML, IFC) or your drawings, from your assumptions on materials, ventilation and surroundings, and we simulate the expected concentrations room by room, hour by hour, over a full year.
Assumptions note agreed with you before any calculation
CO₂, TVOC, HCHO, PM2.5, PM10, NO₂, O₃, humidity
Quantified comparison of the options on the table
Compliance report for HQE, INTAIRIEUR®, BREEAM or LEED
Walk-through of the results in a project meeting
We carry the indoor air scope of your project alongside your design team, without replacing it: we write the requirement, we check that it is being met, and we tell you when it no longer is.
IAQ requirements in the brief and in the tender documents
Review of bids on the air quality scope
Critical review of the calculations submitted to you
Material and ventilation trade-offs, while they still cost a decision rather than site works
Handover preparation: flush-out, measurement protocol
Assembly of the certification file
Depending on the size of the project, its location and the way you like to work, the study is carried out by our own team, or by an engineering consultancy from the i4o network that you appoint directly.
We are the designers of the calculation platform. We take on the complex projects, the cases that fall outside the certification schemes, second opinions, and the topics that require the model itself to evolve.
More than 100 engineering consultancies use i4o across France. We tell you which of them match your project in location and expertise, and you approach them directly. We are neither the contract holder, nor a subcontractor, nor on commission.
| Stage | What we do | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Existing building survey | On refurbishment projects, we model the building as it stands, to locate the sources already present in the ground and in the walls. | The real extent of the removals and strip-out to budget for |
| Briefing | We write the indoor air requirements of your brief: achievable, measurable, enforceable. | An “indoor air” chapter with justified thresholds |
| Competition / concept design | We test the architectural and ventilation strategies against the most unfavourable scenarios. | A quantified comparison of the bidders or of the options |
| Developed / technical design | We simulate the actual project and we work through the finish families and air flow rates with you. | An IAQ design note and a list of material requirements |
| Tender / construction | We check the products proposed as substitutions before you accept them. | An equivalence opinion, product by product |
| Handover / defects period | We prepare the flush-out and the measurement protocol, then we compare the measurements against the predictions. | The evidence file for your certification |
An office building on the edge of the Paris ring road. The issue was not in the materials: NO₂ and particulates come in through the air intakes. Intake positions, filtration and ventilation scenarios were settled before the façade was frozen.
Primary and secondary schools throughout France. High occupant density, finishes and furniture installed in series, constrained operation: the point is to hold CO₂ and formaldehyde without oversizing a ventilation system nobody will maintain.
University buildings whose research activities contaminated the ground with mercury. No certification scheme covers that pollutant: we had to model its transfer from the ground into the occupied volumes and into the walls, to estimate how much of the walls had to be stripped out in the full refurbishment of the site.
Some projects bring a case the solver could not yet handle. After a round of R&D, they make the software better for every project that follows.
The i4o solver computes air transport and pollutant chemistry room by room, hour by hour — including the compounds that form inside the building.
You decide on predicted concentrations, before the contracts are awarded.
The reports follow what HQE Bâtiment Durable, INTAIRIEUR®, BREEAM and LEED expect.
A precise question: a ventilation option, a choice of finish, a report to be reviewed independently. A short deliverable, on a single point.
From concept design to handover, on one building. We follow the project at every milestone and you hold a complete file on certification day.
Several projects: an in-house IAQ standard, requirement templates reusable from one project to the next, and your teams brought up to speed.
Every engagement is quoted after a first conversation about your project. Nothing is committed until the scope is written down and approved by you.
No. A gbXML or IFC export speeds things up, but we know how to start from your drawings and the HVAC strategy chosen.
As early as possible. At concept design, fixing an air quality problem costs a design decision. At handover, it costs site works or a delayed delivery. We do step in later, with fewer levers.
No, and that would not be desirable. They design the systems; we quantify what the building will breathe and we raise the alarm when the assumptions no longer hold. We work with them, from their data.
No contractual role. We tell you which consultancies in the network match your project and you appoint them directly. We take neither a commission nor exclusivity.
No. Indoor air monitoring in public-access buildings remains mandatory. Simulation is there so that you do not discover an exceedance on the day of the sampling.
Models, drawings and results remain your property and are not reused for anything else. We sign your confidentiality agreement.
